Dancing Stars...

I finally finished up my "Dancing Stars" top last week.  Phew!!  And taking a photo was another story.  Between not having any help and the weather not cooperating, I thought I wasn't going to get a picture.  It has been too windy and rainy for anything outside.  I finally gave up and tacked it to the barn wall this morning. It'll do :)

If you follow me, you have seen my progress of  this QAL, which started last January by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side.  You can still download the pattern from Craftsy here.  I chose the lap/throw size which has 98 stars all foundation pieced and measures about 60" x 68".  A nice size throw.  Fabrics I used were charms from several rounds of rainbow charm swaps on Flickr as well as gray and white from Joanns line of Kona solids.

As this was my January goal for "A Lovely Year of Finishes", I'm glad to get it checked off my list! :)

W.I.P Wednesday

There is a lot of works in progress over here but it's always that way, isn't it? Mine seem to be in more that one area though :)  From the bathrooms to my quilt blocks to a pile of wood in the garage that is waiting to be turned into a TV stand.  I just keep plugging away a little bit here and there.  The bathrooms are close and I can't wait to share before and after photos!!
Up first is my blocks from the "Vise Versa" BOM by Gen X Quilters.  It just started this month but if you are interested, you can join in anytime.  Go here for information on purchasing the monthly subscription.

I've also gotten back into some crocheting.  I have several scarf and cowl patterns on Pinterest, so after a yarn shopping spree a couple of weeks ago, I started a project :)  You can view my crochet board here.
I love this pattern so far.  No counting or trying to remember what row to do what--just mindless crochet.  I love that.

Here is a close up of the stitch.

Sunday Stash

Starting a new project can be so fun.  Especially choosing fabric! :)  This stack will be for the 2014 Block of the Month "Vise Versa" @ Gen X Quilters.  Aren't they pretty?
Picking a color scheme this time around actually was hard for me.  I think it was the solids that threw me.  I have never made a quilt with only solids before.  Too many to choose from!  And too many possible combos.  Until I saw the prints above.  Loved them!  So I went from there.  I will be using those on the back which will be another first for me---a pieced back.  I know, I'm behind the times! :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Pattern Testing and Remodeling

I decided this week I'm taking a much needed break from the bathroom redo to sew.  I am 1/2 way done with my "Dancing Stars" top.  I can't wait to finished that up and get to the machine quilting.  As always, I usually get stuck at that point.  Not quite sure if I want to try something new or go with my usual stippling. Suggestions are always welcome :)

Even though the bathrooms have been put on hold this week, I still had remodeling on my mind.  I decided this blog needed a little redo as well.  What do you think?  I can't decide if I like it or not.  We'll see if it grows on me.

I'm also doing some pattern testing this week.  First is a paper pieced Emu by Kristy @ Quiet Play.  She has several patterns coming out soon to her Craftsy shop.  I loved the pattern--so cute and super easy!  There wasn't a ton of pieces to it so I would suggest it to any beginner that is new to paper piecing.  I have never been up close to an Emu so I had to look up a picture :) Ha!  I hope it looks like one!

Next is the pattern "Summer Solstice"  by Marelize Ries @ Stitch By Stitch. You can view her post about it here.  I'm working on a test block right now and have pulled my fabrics.  I decided on the new line Union Station from DS Quilts for Fabric Traditions at Joann's.  I also added a couple of other prints form her other lines, Farm Stand and Croquet.  Her fabrics intertwine with each other so well--love that!!!

The solids match perfectly and are Joann's line of Kona solids.  And they were 40% off. Score!!  I can't wait to dig into these and start stitching! :)

January Goal for ALYoF

I can't believe I haven't been on here since Halloween with my entries to the Blogger's Quilt Festival!  Time flies when you are in remodel mode.  I'm remodeling 2 of our 3 bathrooms which should have been done by now but I ended up getting sick for the month of December.  Blah!!  I'm on a mission to get them finished now and hope to share pics soon.

Speaking of the Quilt Festival.... Did you catch a glimpse of Amy's QAL "Dancing Stars" ?  I joined in and have shared several pics of my progress.  I just recently finished all the blocks for the throw size (98 total).  Phew!!

This will be my January goal for "A Lovely Year of Finishes".  Hopefully this will be a completed quilt top by the end of the month :)  This photo is my design wall with my progress so far.  Love them!!

The "Dancing Stars" QAL can be found here. Or you can click the button on my side bar.
