2013 New Blogger Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the 2013 "Let's Get Acquainted" New Blogger Blog Hop hosted by Plum and June!

Plum and June

My name is Jackie and I live in Oregon with the "Hubs" and two boys ages 8 and 11.  As much as I like to be inside sewing, we like our time outdoors. Horses are a huge part of our life.  He has been involved with the rodeo scene since he was little and I'm an avid trail rider.  Now the boys are learning to rope as well.

My oldest on his new horse
This is my horse, Claire
I have been sewing since I was little and quilting since the early 90's.  I also like to embroider and crochet.  Here's a mosaic of some of the things I have made for Bees,QAL's, ect.

1. Stash Bee hive 2 March block, 2. Stash Bee Hive #2 April block, 3. July block #2, 4. String me along..., 5. Spider web block, 6. Stash Bee Hive#3 Sept. block, 7. Garden Steps QAL, 8. Birdie Stitches BOM 2011, 9. Dancing Stars QAL, 10. Soccer quilt, 11. January Block-Grandmother's Frame, 12. Mario Bros. QAL, 13. Stash Bee Hive#2 March block, 14. Embroidery 101 QAL, 15. Block 1- Woodpecker, 16. Bee Sew Modern- April block for me, 17. "Pointy"from the Star Collection, 18. "Dizzy" from the Star Collection, 19. block #4-- Maple & Red Fox, 20. Bee Sew Modern -- April, 21. Take Time To..., 22. Bee Sew Modern - May, 23. Bee Sew Modern-May block for Anna, 24. Block #10 - Squirrel, 25. Bee Sew Modern - June for Allison

What is my style of quilting?  I don't really know.  There is so many versions of what is modern. I like a little bit of everything :) I guess I really like the modern twist that gets put with traditional blocks.  Paper piecing is my all time favorite! I also enjoy a little woodworking as you can see in my post here on my sewing room shelves.  Of course my stash has grown since this picture :)

What brand of sewing machine do I use?  I just bought a new one.  A Bernina 550QE with a stitch regulator.  I love it! Learning to FMQ has gone pretty smooth with that feature.  I love being able to finish my own quilts.
What is on my design wall?  A lot!  I have 2 quilts going on at the same time.  First is the Sister's Ten BOM from Gen X Quilters.  I am loving that quilt so far.  It is the first time using yarn dyed essex linen. I love it and would definitely use it again.  Second is the blocks from the Forest QAL.  Now that its time to put them together, I'm going to have to move the other ones.  I have sketched out my plans for a layout and can't wait to get started.  Here are the June blocks for the Sister's Ten : Contrary Wife.
What is in my stash?  I like bright rainbow colors with small scale prints, solids, black and whites, text prints and some neutrals to even everything out.  I don't care for batiks.  I also belong to the Stash Stack Club so every month Pink Castle sends a bundle my way.  If you would like more info on this club please click on the button in my side bar.
I also like all the low volume prints that are out now.  I would love to build a stash of those as well.  In fact, I just started sign ups for a low volume fat eighth swap over on flickr.  I am hoping to get 16 slots filled so if you are interested in swapping some of those low volume beauties head over and sign up.
Well I hope you have enjoyed learning a little about me.  I know I have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts.  I have found lots of new blogs to follow.  Thank you Beth for such a great hop and all your hard work in putting it together!  Here is the rest of the schedule:

Monthly Fabric Swap Group

Over the last few months I have participated in the Monthly Fabric Swap Group over on Flickr. Since it is held on a month to month basis, you can sign up or sit out when ever you want.  Once partners are assigned, swap your info, likes and dislikes and then put your package together.  You swap 4 Fat Quarters, 1 sewing/quilting notion, a card/postcard and some chocolate.  It's a lot of fun and a great way to meet other quilters.  I swapped back in March and again in May.  Both went really well.  I received some really great fabrics. May also had a bonus since Mothers day was during the month.  We got to swap 1 small handmade gift along with our fabrics.

My partner for May liked any red, aqua and pink fabric, she liked owls and no pouches!  So I thought a pin cushion would work.  I had just come across this owl pincushion on Pinterist.  So I pulled some scraps in her colors and made it.  Isn't it cute!?  I love how it turned out.  I put some needles in the wing and a Frixion pen in the pocket. I got a big thank you when it arrived so I think she liked it. I want one for myself now :)

Ready To Blog Hop

I'm sure you have all heard about the Let's Get Acquainted New Blogger Blog Hop.  It's been going on now for the past 2 weeks but I've been so busy I'm just now posting it.  That is such my down fall! What can I say.  School is out, summer is here and everyone and everything needs my attention with not enough time for it all.  I can't be the only one, right?   I sure admire the bloggers that can manage it all. I will have my act together this week!!  I'm up Friday in the Hop so make sure you come back :)  Here's Fridays line up:

Friday, June 21

Leigh Anne @ Ella's Cottage

Sarah @ Quilt Candy

Jackie @ NW Patchwork

Erica @ Happy Fabric

Stephanie @ Simple Sewendipity

Lauren @ Seraphym

By clicking on the link above, you can view the whole entire line up which carries through to July.  Lots of blogs full of inspiration and I'm sure lots of friendships to be made.  Some I was already following but some I didn't know at all until now. So this has been a great experience!
This is some of my sewing lately.  My Bee blocks from my last post have become a quilt top. I love it! This was the first time finishing a Bee quilt and I can't wait to get to the rest in my box.  I have the backing and binding so I hope to have it finished by the end of the month for the June link up to A lovely Year of Finishes.
I'm getting caught up on my blocks for the Forest QAL. Only 1 more to go!  And then I have until August 31st to put them all together and link up to the finish party.  I have an idea in mind so I will be clearing off my design wall soon :)
Bee blocks for Bee Sew Modern are done early!  It helps when one of them was already made :)  Sara asked for any paper pieced star in rainbow colors with black as the background.  I was in luck--I had one sitting around.  Months ago I pattern tested for Ester (blogged here) and had made a rainbow star.  I knew it would be perfect for Sara's quilt so I added a black border to make it the size she requested. That was easy:)
"Dizzy" from the Star Collection
And here is Allisons block, also from Bee Sew Modern.  Her tutorial can be found here.  I love this one! I'm adding this to my "want-to-make" list :)

That's been it for me so far in June!  Not too bad :)  Come back on Friday for my stop on the hop.

Quilt Bees

I have been in several Bee groups over the last year and a half or so.  Some I had to send fabric out and some I used my stash.  All had some ups and downs but for the most part I had fun and received lots of beautiful blocks.

I introduce to you.... The Box.

This box is where I keep all my Bee blocks.  It is completely full with the exception of the newest Bee -- my block I chose measured around 17" square so they would not fit :) There is 6 quilt tops to be made from all these blocks (including the big ones not in the box).  I need to do something with them!!  They have been sitting in that box for way too long and its time to start whittling away at the pile.  Maybe by summers end the box will be empty (insert snort) !!  Anyway...

I pulled out my blocks from back in December 2012 for the Stash Bee--Hive #2. I chose "Arkansas Cross Roads" for my block.  Original tutorial can be found here.  It's the perfect block to use up your scraps.  Here are the blocks I made:

Even though December is a hard month for sewing commitments due to the holidays, I still got a nice pile of blocks to play with. 33 in all including mine.  I still need to lay them all out and see how many more I need to make.

With this plan in mind, I'm going to link it up for this month in A Lovely Year of Finishes.  Tomorrow is the last day to link up for June so if you plan on joining us, hurry over!  I hope to have the top pieced, quilted and bound by the end of the month.

So, how about you?  Do any of you have Bee blocks piled up?  I can't be the only one! :)

A Lovely Year of Finishes
I'm also linking up to these parties too!
